In the Market you will find apples (6 varieties), squash (6 varieties), beets, garlic, apple butter, apple cider and honey.
Because we let our apples tree ripen, not all varieties are available when we first open. They ripen, are picked and in the market in the following order:
--- Heirloom McIntosh - Available September 17.
--- Freedom - Available September 17.
--- Liberty - Available September 17.
--- Taranada - Avaible when ripe.
--- Crimson Crisp - Avaible when ripe.
--- Ambrosia - Avaible when ripe.
Here at Sharon Orchards we pride ourselves on quality apples. Our apples have been grown using a minimal amount of synthetic chemical sprays providing a more naturally grown apple. As a result, the flavour of our apples has not been altered.
The downside of this approach is that there may be minor imperfections on the skin of our apples. For the most part, in order to grow the “perfect apple”, large amounts of spray need to be used in order to protect the apples from fungus, insects, and many other diseases that affect the apples.
We believe that taste is more important than appearance, so try the difference yourself!
In the future, we would like to switch entirely to organically certified sprays, so that we can provide a true organically grown apple, but it is very difficult in our climate.
